Method
How the monitoring actually works.
We call this proactive continuous monitoring, and we choose those words carefully. You will see products in this space advertise real-time death detection. In the United States that claim is not supportable, and we would rather tell you where the limits are than let you discover them during a claim.
One contract, several sources
Every source of information is implemented as a separate adapter behind a single documented interface. An adapter receives a read-only snapshot of your family graph and your policies. It returns candidate events, each with a confidence score from 0 to 100 and human-readable evidence. It cannot write to the database, it cannot mark anyone deceased, and it cannot change a designation.
That boundary is enforced by the data model rather than by good intentions. A candidate event arrives with the status pending and stays there until a human — you — confirms or dismisses it. An automated system that could silently reassign a death benefit is a system nobody should trust, including us.
What is live today, and what is not
Self-reported life events
LiveYou tell us directly that something happened — a divorce, a death, a name change, a birth.
It is the highest-confidence signal available, because it comes from the person who actually knows. Confidence is recorded as 100%.
Scheduled re-attestation
LiveOn the cadence you choose, we ask you to confirm that each policy's designations still match your intent, and we record the confirmation with a timestamp.
Most drift is not caused by a dramatic event. It is caused by nobody looking. A recurring prompt is the most reliable control there is.
Obituary and public-notice scanning
Awaiting credentialsMatches names in your family graph against published obituaries and public notices, then raises a low-confidence candidate for your review.
The adapter is written and registered. It stays disabled until a licensed data source is provisioned, because unlicensed scraping of these sources is neither reliable nor defensible.
Vital records and Death Master File
Awaiting credentialsQueries credentialed government death records for people named on your policies.
SSA's Death Master File requires NTIS certification, and non-certified subscribers are embargoed from records under three years old. State vital-records offices each set their own rules. The adapter is built to the same contract and activates when credentials exist.
What we cannot do
We cannot change a beneficiary designation on your behalf. Only the carrier can do that, on their form, with your signature. Anyone claiming otherwise is describing something that does not exist.
We cannot tell you what your state's law says about whether a divorce automatically revokes a spousal designation, because that varies by state, by policy type, and by whether the plan is governed by ERISA. We will tell you that the question exists and is worth asking a lawyer. We will not pretend to be the lawyer.
We cannot guarantee we will learn of a death. We can guarantee that when you tell us, or when you next attest, the consequences are surfaced immediately and recorded permanently.
